What’s Your Avatar?

Use it to Attract the Ideal Customer

What's Your Customer Avatar?

If you were to ask any marketer that is seriously making money online they will tell you that they have a Customer Avatar. Yet if you were to speak to many other marketers they will tell you that they don’t even know what an Avatar is and more importantly how to clearly define one.

When I ask individuals these questions they often respond with questions of their own:

  1. “How do you define a Customer Avatar?”
  2. “Is a Customer Avatar the same as a target audience?

In this blog post I will answer these two questions and give you a series of additional questions that you must consider in deciding and creating your own Customer Avatar.

Questions To Consider When Creating Your Customer Avatar

What's Your Avatar?

One of the challenges that affects all marketers is how to attract the perfect customer to your particular product or offering. Often times individuals spend hoards of money on paid advertising and traffic and wonder why they are not getting the sales and conversions that they desire.

You can have one of the best sales funnel and the greatest opportunity on the face of the planet. (Don’t we all believe that?) Yet if you are not getting the right people to your funnel then therein lies your problem.

If you have not clearly defined your Customer Avatar that you are specifically talking to you can end up wasting more and more money, time and energy.

Which is exactly why you need a clearly defined Customer Avatar!

But let’s first answer the question….

What Is A Customer Avatar?

A Customer Avatar is simply a detailed profile of your target audience.

Imagine you were targeting your favorite sports athlete. You would know their name, age, and interests at a bare minimum. You may also know a few of their characteristics and demographics. The same idea applies to creating your ideal customer with an Avatar.

Your Customer Avatar is an individual with:

  • A specific name
  • A specific age
  • A specific family situation
  • A ideal amount of children
  • Specific demographics and other characteristics that make them who they are.

You may also include a piece of yourself in your customer avatar as well.

For example what was life like BEFORE you started using your product and/or got involved with your business venture.

Feel free to leverage your own situation and the “pains” you’ve experienced in your journey. After all who would know better as to what your Avatar may be experiencing that yourself. This pain is absolutely critical in establishing your Avatar because it speaks to your customers listening ear and you have the solution to that pain.

How To Define Your Customer Avatar?

If you want to truly leverage your target audience and make them feel as if you are speaking directly to their listening ear you must clearly define your Customer Avatar’s characteristics.

Here’s a key insight to remember:

-Marketing to everyone is marketing to no one

What's A Customer Avatar

Establishing a Customer Avatar allows you to truly leverage your target audience and appeal to a “specific someone rather than a generic everyone.”

By doing so you will be able to connect with your audience on an emotional level but in order to truly do so you must know their fears and deepest desires.

And in order to do that, you will need to ask yourself the following questions:

10 Questions To Define Your Customer Avatar

In order to properly define your Customer Avatar you will need to ask yourself the following questions:

  • Where does my avatar like to hang out?
  • What websites are they frequently visiting?
  • What books are they reading?
  • What type of programs are they watching on TV?
  • What do they like to do in their free time?
  • What are their goals?
  • Who are their heroes and enemies?
  • Who do they want to pleasure and please?
  • What keeps them up at night?

The Big Picture

What's A Customer Avatar

Your avatar is going to dictate the customer that you are targeting so you should think carefully and understand this is not something to be taken haphazardly.

In fact every time you create a post it is your Customer Avatar that you should be writing to.

Remember selling to everyone is selling to no one.

Final Thoughts On Your Customer Avatar

Thus the main concept that you should be concerning yourself with is…

“What is the motivation of my Avatar?”

Now as you develop content you need to have it focused around your Customer Avatar’s specific needs, desires, and motivations.

From time to time you should take a mental audit and ask yourself…

  • Is my customer avatar defined well enough?
  • Is my content specific enough?

Remember: Your Customer Avatar is going to dictate your specific messaging.

And once you have your Customer Avatar dialed in then you’re 80% of the way there with your marketing.
